Reviving the manufacturing heart of the nation
CENTRAL MANUFACTURING DISTRICT
This was the nation’s first planned industrial district. The 65 industrial structures contributing to the historical significance of the District were constructed between 1902 and 1965, the Loomis Mill being on of them. Buildings such as the Loomis Mill are a reminder of the significant role Chicago took park in the U.S. manufacturing sector in the early 20th century.
MAKER LEGACY
The Chicago mill-work producer, Foster Munger & Company, originally occupied the building as a manufacturing base. Foster Munger produced mill-work for doors, windows, sashes, staircases, mouldings, and many other related items. The legacy of Foster Munger remains throughout residential, commercial, and church buildings throughout the city today.
INDUSTRIAL REVIVAL
The Loomis Mill adaptive reuse project pays tribute to the area’s manufacturing legacy and the building’s prior tenant. The renovation of the building prioritizes the conservation of original industrial elements and the updated design makes tribute to the Foster Munger Company.
